Celebration Day

• About

The idea for Celebration Day originated in 2022 with a small group of friends and has grown significantly since then. Like Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day or Remembrance Day, Celebration Day offers the simple thought: that as individuals and as a society, we are enriched and empowered by keeping the lives of those that are important to us more present.

• Objective

I was approached by the Founder and CEO of my former agency with the ask of designing a digital hub for his most consequential non-profit. I was honored to be part of such a meaningful endeavor, but there was one challenge: CEOs are often pressed for time and may not always have a full understanding of the intricacies involved in creative timelines, especially when it comes to launching a website. I was asked if I could design a responsive site, and be ready to present in two days.

• Solution

The timeline doesn't always unfold as expected, and more often than not, it's shorter than anticipated. But when I was given the chance to create something that could have a lasting impact on so many, I jumped at the opportunity. "Celebration Day" originally began as a print-only campaign with a defined set of brand guidelines. My task was to extend these guidelines into the digital space. With limited time and resources, I focused on crafting a minimalist, inviting layout, complemented by two or three bold expressions of movement that I was confident our development team could execute effectively.

I was provided with a set of vectorized illustrations, which became the foundation of the design. Their clean, linear style inspired me to create a grid-based layout to house content. To infuse life into the design, I subtly animated the illustrations, giving them a dynamic, almost organic sense of motion. Finally, I incorporated a text highlight technique to emphasize key content, creating the feeling of a story being told—much like the cherished stories we hear about those we’ve lost.
